Question by Jeff D: what in hot water heaters are worth money for scrap metal?
I notice alot of people scoop up old hot water heaters to sell the metal to a scrap yard, what part / parts of the water heater are actualy worth money? is it just the entire thing, or do you have to take out the tank or whatever is on the inside?

if anyone knows and could share it would be most apreciated.

The copper tank if you have one. Some models are bi-metal, glass lined and have insulation wiress etc… glued to the copper core. It may be not worth the hassle to tear apart, get rid of the sharp scrap, and transport the clean copper for whatever cents on the dlooar you will get for it.

This drain is there to drain the sediments out of the tank. After you drain the sediment out, you can tighten the plug with a channel lock to make sure it is on all the way!! Good Luck and Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Question by lillypad: How do I temporarily repair water heater leak?
The water heater is clearly leaking from the bottom and seeping onto the boxy thing it sits on. I tried turning off the water supply by turning the valve at the top (which i think is for the water supply) clockwise but nothing changed. How to stop the leak before it gets too bad? Also, should I have turned off the gas too?

Question by Dominick: Hi My boiler is leaking brown water from the top and theres drips coming out the bottom any idea’s?
The boiler is leaking a sticky brown liquid out the top and there is a steady drip coming out the bottom of the boiler as well, Now i have to turn the water supply off in order to stop the leaking but there is still water in the actual boiler system???

The brown is rust.leak at top is prob over pressure valve.Bottom..if not coming from pipes that need replacing better have boiler checked.if pin holes from rust in bottom it is no longer safe under pressure.pipes and joints can be replaced or fixed if loose.A boiler that leaks from too much rust is potentially dangerous.Get a licensed plumber who has boiler experience to look at it.

WELL I NOTIFIED MY LANDLORD ABOUT IT HE STILL HASNT FIXED IT YET. ITS BEEN LIKE THIS FOR 3 WEEKS. SO I WANTED TO KNOW IF MY GAS AND ELECTRIC BILL WILL BE HIGHER SO I CAN DEDUCT IT FROM THE RENT. ALSO THINKING OF NOT PAYING IT UNTIL HE FIXES IT
